First off me best soultion for you is to just start out as a hobby and maybe if you like it eventully it could lead to an investment, buying packs of cards is expensive so what i would do is try to look for card shows or even look on ebay for cards to find out cards shows take place look at and you can go there and find your certain team or player or even they will have a certain section for cheap cards where you will always find really good deals.

Those Gretzky cards will probably fetch 20+, as wil Stevie Y's, Messier's and all those players.. I have a regular card of Gretz from 83-84 worth about 80.

LOL, I have most of the cards to that set. I got them in 1987. Amazing to see that $200.00 is the going price for them now. I'd say buy them. They are only going to go up in price as time goes on. The Yzerman rookie is awesome. Same with Dougie Gilmour.

The best lots I have seen say specifically which cards are in there that are good, as well as a detailed overview of everything else. Ones that are vague tend to mask the reality of the cards not being that good. Detailed cards including card number, whether or not they are a rookie card, book values if you have those, and any other additional information is helpful. While details do not flatter your collection if it is not worth as much as you would like for it, it makes for honest business practice and will help you in the long run even if your future endeavors do not including baseball cards and sports cards.
